In 2014, TPO worked with National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) on a compensation assessment to ensure the organization’s pay structure is equitable based on market comparisons. Here is what NBCOT Executive Vice President, Allan Freedman, had to say about TPO’s work—and the outcomes for NBCOT.
As Executive Vice President of NBCOT, I handle day-to-day management and administration. We are constantly looking for ways to do things better—we’re always evaluating ourselves and not satisfied with the status quo in areas where we can improve.
One of the areas where we wanted an outside expert perspective was compensation. We felt it was time for an evaluation to make sure our pay and benefits are comparable to the market. I asked our accounting firm whom they would recommend and they suggested I speak with TPO.
TPO’s assessment of our compensation was very well done, soup to nuts. They asked questions about more than just job descriptions—they wanted a broader perspective on our organization. They conducted in-depth sessions to really understand not just the jobs based on the job descriptions, but how the jobs relate to our organization and mission.
Based on TPO’s work, the outcome for us is peace of mind—we learned that from a compensation standpoint we are doing the right thing for our people. This is a big factor in helping us meet our employee retention goals. We never want to lose a good contributor over salary.
I would unequivocally recommend TPO to any firm who wants to ensure their compensation program is balanced and just. They have a very collaborative process, and they really “got” us. They didn’t just check the box and move to the next client. In fact, we are going to have TPO do an annual refresher on compensation for key positions—and in 3 years or so we will do a full top to bottom assessment.
